Writing Strands Wednesday- Exercise 2: Days 3 & 4



(pg. 9)

The Present Tense core sentence provided:

The girl flies the kite.

Their Questions and My Answers:

1) Who sees the girl fly the kite? A mouse.

2) What is the girl's name? Anne.

3) What color is the kite? Red.

4) What is the age of the girl? Young

5) What is the weather like? Brisk and fair

The girl flies the kite.

The mouse watches while the girl flies the kite.

The mouse watches the girl, Anne, as she flies the kite.

The mouse watches Anne, the girl that flies the red kite.

The mouse watches Anne, the young girl that flies the red kite.

The mouse, when it is brisk and fair, watches Anne, the young girl that flies the red kite.

I wish I could draw and paint like Breezy.  Her style is exactly how I see this sentence in my mind...

We would see the mouse, his profile, on a little rock on the left hand corner.  In the distance, in the center of the picture, in a field of grass bent by the wind, we would see Anne, her cheeks aglow, flying her red kite in the billowy clouds high above, while the wind creates a wavy, reddish-golden sea with her hair floating behind her.

Perhaps you can even see a bit of the sea in the distance with sail boats gliding by...if you look close enough...
