Homeschool Highlights Weeks 4 & 5 Exp-1850

Wow... let's get right to it, shall we?

for week 4 we worked on our memorization of James.
We have now memorized ( more or less) James 1 verses 1 thru 11.

In week 5, we plunged back into Boy, Have I Got Problems and I must say, it made for good discussion.

I'm enjoying the study and I'm actually enjoying the time in between to memorize.  I thought it would make me crazy to go through the study so slowly, but it's okay.

Since I do podcast devotionals every week, I don't want to take up too much time here.  But, this week's study allowed us to talk about the circumstances that happen in life, God uses as a trial to test our faith and draw us closer to Him while the devil uses those same circumstances to try to tempt us to deny our faith and fall into sin.

I love that the Lord is so good and faithful to provide a means of escape.

We also started our newest hymn, The Lord's My Shepherd.
We bought this version... we liked it best.

Henry Hudson, Pilgrims in Plymouth, Miles Standish, Massachusetts Bay Colony, Rhode Island Colony, and (today) Salem Witchcraft Trials were the main topics these last two weeks.

Lots O' Notebooking.

I'll spare you the entire gallery.

One project we did was to make a horn book.

Tip!!!  Do not use foam core-- it will make the hugest mess everywhere!
I made Abby use that one-- she covered it with duct tape :)

The other two just used some cardboard:

We are continuing to study mammals.  Strange... ever since we started studying zoology this year all this "wildlife" keeps showing up on our windows.

Our last "surprise" was a very large frog--

We decided to get an annual zoo pass and are looking forward to doing that very soon.
I think we're ready to move beyond the neighborhood squirrel and conniving cat...

Conniving?! Me?  No, no.  I was just stretching.

I must be going now...

Math and Spelling are going well.  Elijah just finished Lesson 19 of All About Spelling.  I'm sure we'll start to slow down at the end of Book 2 or the beginning of Book 3.  So far, so good.  I am really liking this program.  I'm learning a lot!

We're holding our own in other areas.

The only "new" thing last week was Abby just started Suzuki Violin Book 5.

She really likes her new piece and even allowed me to share before it was "ready."

How have you guys been? I'm feeling better-- not so "twitchy" today.

I hope all is well in you corner of the world :)
