Weekly Homeschool Highlights: Week 7 RtR with video

MFW Blog Roll

In Bible, we read about the birth of John the Baptist, the birth of Jesus and the coming of the wise men.
The combination of colder weather and the story of Jesus' birth made me want to watch The Nativity-- so we did. It was nice to have a visual running through our heads as we read more and more of the story each day.

It was awesome for the kids to see the Holy Spirit coming upon people and moving
(see Luke 1: 15, 35, 41 & 67)
before the birth of Jesus and the Day of Pentecost. Just another reminder that the Divine Trinity existed and moved before the foundations of the world.

The children are memorizing Isaiah 53 and we are continuing to play our New Testament Books of the Bible card game.

In History, we learned about Pax Romana (Roman Peace), the early philosophers (Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and Pythagoras), and learned more about life in the Roman empire including education.

The children did a notebooking page on Augustus Caesar.

He is Kurt's (age 8, 3rd grade)

Briggita's (age 11, 5th grade)

And Leisl's (age 12, 7th grade)

Our Latin root words were "mille"= thousand and "annus"= year.

In Science, we learned about the ear and hearing.

We made a model of the ear...

"He who has ears to hear, let him hear." Matthew 11:15

This is the tympanic membrane.

These show the attachment of the hammer, anvil and stirrups (the smallest bones of the human body-- collectively called the ossicles) to the cochlea.

Leisl finally got caught up on some Science. Here is a little video showing her experiments about surface tension...

I tried some new activities to help with spelling.

One is spelling their missed words out in playdough...

We're just plugging away in Art, Math, English and writing.

Briggita is working on a story using Story Starters.

And Leisl is working on a book based on, "Pirates in the Suburbs."

We're also working on the bonus features/ putting the DVD together.

We'll be taking orders soon.

Well, that's our week... Week 8 here we come!

Comment #1: You and Leisel are hilarious together. You should start a comedy routine.

Comment #2: I had no idea that soap had a high midiclorian content. "Use the Force Soap, Use the Force".

Comment #3: I love the sound effects during the bathtub race. Well done!
