Our Newest Cast Member

I am very late on this introduction so I apologize!

As we know from previous exploits, the one tender ache in the hearts of the Mishmash children is our profound lack of anything furry and four-legged in our home.

All of our kids have wanted a pet... so badly! There have been actual tears shed. Big, ginormous crocodile tears for this cruel insensitivity on the part of the Mishmash Parents.

Two of the children accept the fact that we do not have a pet and carry on with their existence-- as difficult as it is, ahem.

However, one child, of course it would be the prayer warrior of the family, has never wanted anything more than a pet and has been praying, earnestly, for one-- for a very long time.

I'm talking years.

The Captain and I thought about it a few times.

"Should we?"

"I don't know. What do you think?"

We've always prayed about it and we always had a check in our spirits.

No peace. No pet.

That is until this month.

Miss Brigitta turned eleven this month and invariably the conversation turned to,
"What should we get her for her birthday?"

What does she want?

What does she always want? A pet.

Okay, let's pray about it.

hee hee... giggle.. guess what?

This time, we had peace.

So now we have-- a pet!!!!

Long story cut dramatically and sporadically, if I do say so myself, short.

Here he is... Mr. Darren (named after a character in our movie):

I had to tease you a little!
Look how cute he is inside her binder bin :)

Alright, are you ready? Are you sure?

Okay, here is his cute little face...

Ta-dah!

The Captain and I used to have ferrets before we had children. We think they are the perfect pet.

They are litter box trained, you can bathe them at home and do their other cares easily (nails, ear cleaning, etc...), they don't bark, they don't need to be "walked" outside-- just some play time inside and they sleep for 12-14 hours a day.

See...

Isn't he cute?? Okay, maybe you're not a fan. That's okay... I'll still love ya.

The most important part is that Miss Brigitta understands in a deep way the power of prayer and that God's timing is always the best timing. Oh, and that, yea, we have a pet!!!

Ferrets have always creeped me out. However, the more I study animals, the less freaked out I have become. You would never catch me anywhere near a spider 4 years ago and last year we had a huge web outside our house and I was taking pictures of the thing. I still hate crickets and don't want spiders in my home. But we study nature and then talk about how God made those things and to me, it has helped appreciate animals. And i think its pretty amazing that your daughter has been praying. We don't have pets either. Well we do have 2 birds. But they are annoying..lol. Nothing with real fur on it. Maybe someday...we'll see.

Jack says, "Ooooowwww. Ferrets are creepy. They look like rats. Weiner dog rats.
B-bot says, "Cute. But, I still want a hedgehog."
And Bella said. " Aaaaaahhhhhhh, Moooooooommmmmm, I've wanted a ferret for sooooooooooo looooooonnnnnnngggggggg! Mmmmmmooooooommmmmmm, pleeeeeease?!?!?!!?

I pointed out the last lines of your post and told her, "The power of prayer, baby. The power of prayer." (But don't tell her that she's probably not going to see one any time soon.)

That's a pet? When you said four legged furrie, in my head i was chanting, dog dog dog....

A ferret? Are they even legal? Someone told me years ago that they weren't. But i also heard the same thing about iguanas and a billion people have the green things. Hey at least it's cuter than an iguana.

Maybe I'm biased. lol. I have had 10 birds, 4 dogs, 1 cat and a fish. And NO WHERE in my mind has a ferret come to mind. :)

They are illegal in some states but not here in Oregon. We used to have them when we lived in MN too.

It's okay that they aren't your fav-- we just couldn't have a dog in this season of life and we have been having a blast with him!

We have some good friends who have had ferrets and loved them. Not really my favorite, but they are kind of cute. And more manageable than a dog. And definitely a good way to teach patience and praying for guidance!

hhehehehhe...A weiner dog rat. I have to say that does seem like a good description, although considerable cuter than both of those things and without the yucky rat tail.

I can't say that I have ever considered a ferret for a pet...but Mr. Darrin is very very very sweet. And it is so worth it to see the joy that lights up Brigitta's face when even asked about him, let alone when she HAS him in her arms. He is a nice addition to the fam

If you can teach him to sit, stay and roll over, let me know!

I have never thought to have a ferret. We have two dogs that we keep outside (where they belong!)... I would be afraid that they would catch and eat it if it wandered out somehow.

Hmmm... I feel the need to do some research on ferrets now.

Looking for something??
