The Sunday Bulletin

Once again I'm stealing from Pastor Jim (insert cheesy grin here).

This is the portion of our Sunday bulletin that he writes each week. I was particularly encouraged by this week's bulletin so I thought I'd share.

And now a word from Pastor Jim...

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day,
and not me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
Paul to Timothy, II Timothy 4:7-8

There in a darkened dungeon of Rome, knowing that it was likely only hours he had left of his life, the apostle reflects back on his fight in the faith.

And he says it was a "good fight." What a rich perspective!

Perhaps in the world of athletics none understand this better than a wrestler... oh I do not write referring to the stagecraft of the supposed bouts on television, rather I refer to those who've wrestled in sanctioned bouts on a high-school or collegiate level.

For the spectator in the stands the contests, seemingly, are not long.

For the athlete on the mat those minutes of exertion and endurance feel like an eternity.

Folks... for some this 'round' seems like an eternity, the opposition towards righteousness and living godly seem to never let up.

Yet think of what Paul is writing from this spot of physical fatigue, isolation and difficulty.

1) Keep the faith... keep your confidence in God and His demonstrated love for you.

2) There will be a finish on this earth... and it will be sooner than we think. You parents, as you look at your kids, like me say, "Where did the time go?"

3) The reality of the crowns... on this side of Heaven we don't understand all of this, yet in Heaven we will be thankful for the crowns we are given!

4) The Lord, He is a Righteous Judge... when we see Him we will realize just how perfect His judgments are, and always have been.

5) As you live...look for His appearing... look at the above verse. By looking and loving His appearing it helps me in not only desire, but ability to live righteously and there will be eternal reward for such a lifestyle.

So, in living this day fix your eyes on our Lord and live with a perspective of Heaven.
