Minister of the Sanctuary

We have such a High Priest,
who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected.

Hebrews 8:1-2

We are beginning Week 15 of our curriculum and the time of the construction of the tabernacle.

We could study the tabernacle for an entire school year and never exhaust the treasures stored there.

I know we will revisit the Old Testament and do a more in depth study in High School but I don't want to gloss over the richness of this wonderful place and wonderful picture of our Jesus.

It's funny, the Bible devotes only two chapters to the creation of the heavens and the earth. Even the birth of Christ only gets four chapters. But the tabernacle occupies fifty chapters in the bible.

And in those fifty chapters Jesus Christ is revealed over and over again.

In Hebrews, He is called the Minister of the Sanctuary. Just like Aaron ministered in the earthly tabernacle interceding on behalf of the people to God, so Jesus Christ, our High Priest, ministers in the heavenly tabernacle and intercedes on our behalf before God.

Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him,
since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Hebrews 7:25

Robert J. Morgan has a wonderful book titled, "He Shall Be Called" that I will use as a supplement this year. In it Morgan writes about 150 names of Jesus and how they point to His great, sacrificial love for us. He ends each name study with an excerpt from a hymn or other quote from men and women who have loved or appreciated that aspect of His character.

In 1863, Charitie L. Bancroft wrote this of our High Priest:

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea.
A great high Priest whose Name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
